In my last article, the survey results of ‘What Makes a Supervisor Effective?‘ indicated that trust and trustworthiness were the most valued characteristics.  Here is an acronym, describing five key actions, for building trust and commitment.

What makes a supervisor effective?

During my workshop ‘Stepping Up to Supervisor,’ a key discussion point is: “What makes a supervisor effective?” Participants select their top 5 choices from a class-generated list of best characteristics/behaviors. The totals from 215 participants yielded a surprising answer. Trust/Trustworthy/Honest received the greatest number of votes (53%), outranking ‘good communicator’(41%), ‘respectful’(39%), ’empowers/challenges’ (31%), ‘knowledgeable’ (30%), and ‘fair'(29%).… Read more...
